TOTNES PRIDE IS A CELEBRATION OF QUEER JOY THAT’S OPEN TO ALL

  • The word ‘Queer’ can be traced back to various languages including two words: a German word quer which means ‘diagonal’ or ‘across’ and the Latin verb torgueō, which means ‘to twist’ or ‘to distort’. 

    In the UK in the 16th century, it was being used to describe something as strange or peculiar. By the late 19th century it was used in a derogatory way to describe same-sex attracted men. Despite this insult, it was simultaneously being reclaimed colloquially by the oppressed groups. Yay! 

    Fast forward to the present day, ‘Queer’ has been fully reclaimed as a celebratory umbrella term used to describe people’s genders, sexualities and sexes which do not fall into the normative categories of straight or cisgender (aka ‘female’ or ‘male’). 

    However, Queerness doesn’t just finish there… It can invite a whole perception shift with how we interact with the natural world and other humans, inviting us to question systems of belief and a radical reimagining of how we love, live and connect. 

  • Absolutely! Totnes Pride throws its arms wide open to anyone who stands with the LGBTQ+ family. Come dance, sing, learn, share and connect!

  • Queer Joy invites us to celebrate life and all its many colours! Just like there are a multitude of different animals and plant friends, we can see this diversity reflected in human gender, sexuality and sex.

    Queer joy offers us a place to be our true authentic selves and is a vital form of resistance against harmful cultural narratives from one of tragedy to triumph!

  • It sure is!

    Across the weekend of programming, there are many family friendly events as well as events specifically made for parents and little ones.

  • Our ticket policy at Totnes Pride is designed to keep ticketed events accessible while still paying our artists and preformers a fair rate.

    Totnes Pride is a CIC and we do not make any profit- everything goes back into creating more queer joy!

    No single ticket at Totnes Pride will cost more than £15 and many events will be free with an optional donation.

    Tickets are tiered to allow for those with more to spare to pay a supporter ticket and those with less to claim a low income ticket.

GETTING TO TOTNES:

BY CAR:

If you're planning to drive to Totnes, please allow extra time for parking, On Friday and Saturday mornings Totnes town centre car parks are busiest due to the regular market.

TRAINS:

Totnes is a 30-minute train journey from Exeter, Plymouth and Torquay and 1.5 hours from Bristol.

Direct services run from London Paddington with GWR

The town is a 10 minute walk from the station.

BUSES

Buses run to and from various places in South Devon including; Plymouth, Newton Abbott, Dartmouth, Salcombe, Ashburton, Ivybridge, South Brent and many more.

BOB THE BUS- ACCESSIBLE BUS SERVICE

Bob the Bus runs regular services between the Steamer Quay car parks and the town centre. Check their website for times.

The Albatross Pizza Shop:

Shaka: Burgers, sides, cold beers and even colder milkshakes. What’s not to love?

Bens Farm Shop: A great place to pick up bits for a picnic. local ingredients for a stellar home-cooked dinner, or ready meals for a lazy night in.

Canten: The secret gem of the high street, hidden in the courtyard of The Mansion, expect to find locally sourced ingredients transformed into hearty meals, sweet treats and tasty drinks.

Kommune Cafe: A cozy cafe with an incredible list of hot drinks you won’t find anywhere else in town and local DJ’s spinning great tunes.

Centre Cafe: An airy cafe with loads of seating, great live music and a bar alongside tasty all-day food.

our ticket policy

  • The max ticket price for any individual event for Totnes Pride 2026 will be £15 (excluding ticket fees). All ticketed events are offered on a sliding scale.

    Ticket fees cover our payment processing fee and the fees charged by our ticketing platform. No profit is made on ticket fees.

  • Totnes Pride is pleased to offer a diverse range of free events across our programme. Many of these events are made possible by our headline sponsors: Totnes Counsil and Block and Tackle. Further support to provide low-cost events is thanks to our supporting venues and local sponsors.

    Donations are welcome at the time of checkout for free events. These donations go towards the facilitators and performers offering their time to bring accessible and low-cost events.

  • Totnes Pride is a not for profit Community Interest Company- all profit made goes back into running a joyful Pride festival. Our first priority is to pay our facilitators and performers, remaining funds are circulated across the CIC to cover our running costs. We are entirely volunteer run.
